The future is looking bright at Ignition Park in South Bend, where Data Realty LLC has started to build a 43,000-square-foot data center. As the first high-tech business in the technology park, Data Realty will house the main and backup computer systems for mid-sized businesses, 24-7.
The first thing you notice about Courtney Parry’s desk is that there isn’t very much on it: a computer, a business card holder and her elbows, as she leans forward to talk to you.
Not one piece of paper in sight.
That’s pretty remarkable, considering that Parry works as an associate in charge of new venture development in the offices of Graham Allen Partners, a private holding company established to make investments in early-stage, high-growth technology businesses. She does everything from exhaustive research to conducting meetings to sharing massive digital files with colleagues in multiple locations.
And she does it all without generating one scrap of paper, thanks to the IT support offered by Netech Corp.
The on-site IT integration solutions provider offers a smorgasbord of IT solutions that allows Parry to choose the ones she needs to work in a virtually paperless environment.
Both open and secure
“The thing that makes this building different from other business locations is that the environment needs to be completely open, so that people can get access from anywhere in building,” says Les Dant, Netech account executive. “But it also has to be secure so that only you and others whom you’ve designated can access your account.
“That presents a set of challenges,” he says. “If you log in, you want to be able to go to the boardroom, conference room, your space, the common areas, or the café, and still be able to get that secure connectivity back to your resources.”
To accomplish that, Netech placed secure wireless routers throughout the building, along with network access control. Netech used high-end-equipment to ensure that no matter what needs arose, the system could meet the need.
A full range of IT tasks
Graham Allen Partners uses Netech’s support for many operational IT tasks: wireless Internet, Cisco phones, and internal networking and printers.
“Several of our portfolio companies are located in Innovation Park, and also rely on Netech’s services,” Parry says. “From Cisco to VMware to Microsoft, Netech has a wide variety of vendor relationships and suppliers that are a great asset to Innovation Park clients. They know what you need and how to go about getting it.”
Access anywhere in the building
Parry appreciates the convenience of being able to hold meetings in any location within the building and have Internet access without having to plug into a port. Given the amount of data she works with, she also values the high speed, immense bandwidth and reliability.
Graham Allen uses the full range of IT support because, Parry says, clients expect it.
“If we had to provide this on our own, it would be more difficult to manage,” Parry says. “Netech allows our companies to focus on building their business, rather than managing their internal IT infrastructures.”
